Dental specialists complete two to six extra years of training after dental school and usually work on referral from a general dentist, although most accept patients who call directly. Orthodontists straighten teeth with braces and clear aligners; endodontists handle root canals; periodontists treat gum disease and place implants; oral and maxillofacial surgeons extract wisdom teeth, place implants and do jaw surgery, often under IV sedation; prosthodontists rebuild smiles with crowns, bridges and dentures; denture centers focus on full and partial dentures, relines and repairs. Sedation and hospital dentists serve anxious patients and people with special needs, while TMJ and sleep-apnea dentists make oral appliances for jaw pain and snoring.

Highly recommend for wisdom teeth removal. Dr. Tomlinson was great. He knows his stuff, has a sense of humor, and the staff are warm and responsive. "2 thumbs up!"- Tristan

Dr. Tomlinson is great, but we will not return for my second child's wisdom teeth because of the office and nursing staff. They wrote a prescription for a med they knew was on back order and when I called back about it, they told me they'd known it was back ordered and where it was and wasn't available. They should have offered that information when handing me the Rx instead of me driving all around Watkinsville and Athens with a teen who just had their wisdom teeth out. More importantly, the nurse does not have good infection prevention practices when starting the IVs. I know, because I'm a 20+ nurse and I teach nursing. I don't know if she's there every day, or is still there (we went in July), but it's not worth the risk.

Dr Tomlinson is a good person from my first time meeting him. He gave precaution of care with understanding Iβm pregnant. My first time meeting Tammy once at her station whom I believe is receptionist told me to eat and take drugs whatever I wanna do before the surgery. Itβs obvious Iβm pregnant as she was in the room as the Dr assessed my X-ray. I thought that was rude, disrespectful, and not professional. You donβt tell a preg lady to take drugs. I donβt know who she knows do that but I take pride in who I am the baby I carry and my health. That was not acceptable of her.I left feeling a downside to her comment but my experience with being first timer here meeting Dr Tomlinson was good I hope he does great on my local anesthesia surgery.

Dr. Tomlinson was referred by our kid's pediatric dentist, their orthodontist, & by my husband's general dentist. Even with three professional recommendations I still like to read through patient reviews & prepare for any potential issues we might have with a medical professional. I have a lot of trust issues & don't handle medical visits well. We have seen DR. Tomlinson four times over the past couple of years. 2 consult visits for each child for different reasons, one surgery to remove four very impacted wisdom teeth for one child, and recently for the follow up visit from that surgery. Each & every time Dr. Tomlinson has been professional, patient, non judgmental, & seemed genuinely concerned for all of our needs. I feel bad that some of the other reviews were from some patients that may not have had a good experience with him. I am not sure why one patient mentioned she wasn't given antibiotics because it was explained to us that those would be included in the sedation fluids given when prepping for surgery. Out of four visits for various reasons we have had good, consistent experiences. His staff in the insurance office, front desk, & even the anesthesiologist at our surgery
